Step-by-step install

Open the downloaded file. Either tap the "Open" notification right after download, or open your Files app → Downloads → tap the APK.
Allow install from this source. First time only: Android shows "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source." Tap Settings → toggle Allow from this source ON → tap back arrow.
Tap Install. Takes ~10 seconds. When done, tap Open.
Done. O'Neil Beats is now on your home screen alongside your Play Store apps. Push notifications for new beat drops will start arriving the first time you open the app.

Is this safe? Yes. The APK is signed with the same key as the Play Store version — when the Play listing goes live, Android will recognize this install and offer to seamlessly upgrade from Play (no reinstall needed). The "unknown sources" warning is Android's standard caution for ANY install outside the Play Store — it's not a security flag against this specific app.

Why isn't this on the Play Store yet? Google's 2026 policy for new developer accounts requires 14 consecutive days of closed testing with 12+ active testers before allowing a production release. Will I get updates? Yes — push notifications include "new version available" links once the Play listing goes live, OR check this page periodically for the latest APK. Same install key means Android upgrades in place; you never lose your favorites or purchase history.

Does this cost anything? The app is free. Individual beat licenses are pay-as-you-go: Lease $30, Premium $99, Stems $199, Exclusive (contact producer).
